By Amony Immaculate:

The move by the Ministry of lands, housing and urban development, to open up a zonal office in Lira district with the hope of bringing services closer to the people, may not meet their objective after the office has remained redundant several months after it’s official opening.

At the time of the opening, all services were offered free of charge for a period of 3 days but later, the public was required to pay a recommended fee in order to access the services.

It is against this background that people might have relaxed as confirmed by the Administration manager Stephen Kidega who says their office is always open but people are not visiting them.

Catherine Akot, the head of customer care at the Zonal office explained that verifying title will be done at a fee of 10,000/= meanwhile one is also required to pay another 10,000/= in case they need a search statement.

The Lira Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Zonal Office, provides all the key services of the Ministry including land registration, land Administration, surveying, valuation and physical planning.

The Ministry Zonal Office is designed to serve all the eight Districts of Lira, Apac, Alebtong, Dokolo, Kole, Oyam, Otuke and Amolatar.
