Improper use of road signs by drivers has been recognized as a significant factor contributing to traffic accidents in the Lango Sub-region.

S.P Jimmy Patrick Okema, the spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region Police, made this announcement during a press conference held at the Lira City Central Police Station.

This statement comes in the wake of a tragic incident that resulted in the death of 38-year-old Suleiman Ogwang, along with three others who suffered serious injuries. The accident took place on Friday, November 1, in Amolatar district, where Ogwang was riding a motorcycle with registration number UFH 056 P, traveling from Bangala to Amolatar.

Okema reported that as Ogwang approached a junction, he encountered another rider on an unregistered motorcycle who was speeding. In an attempt to avoid a pothole, the other rider veered into Ogwang's path, leading to a collision that ultimately resulted in Ogwang's death shortly after arriving at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

He emphasized that the failure to adhere to road signs is not the only issue; speeding around corners is also a major contributor to road accidents.

Meanwhile, Okema confirmed that the three injured individuals were initially taken to Namasale Health Center III but were later transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.
