By Geoffrey Odongo Olyec Apac district has been granted a resident Chief Magistrate as the judiciary steps up the process of promoting plea bargain to de-congest prisons and reduce backlogs in court. Lira Resident Judge, Lady Justice Dr Winifred Nabisinde confirmed the deployment of the magistrate during her visit to Atopi government Prison in Apac early this month. Nabisinde who met with the inmates at Atopi, explained to them how to benefit from plea bargain sessions that has been brought to Apac. Geoffrey Ogwang, the Apac District Prisons Commander appealed to inmates to use the opportunity of plea bargain in good faith. Reacting to the Plea Bargain Sessions in Apac, one of the defence counsels Bosco Twontoo it will help many inmates to obtain fair justice since it also gives the opportunity to even one remanded a day earlier to appear before the High Court should he or she wish to make a plea for a lighter sentence.
